International Conference on Industry of the Future and Smart Manufacturing

We are pleased to share the successful conclusion of DESDEMONA, a PRIN-funded project dedicated to redefining the future of maintenance and industrial operations. Over the past months, the project developed an innovative Decision Support System (DSS) capable of transforming traditional maintenance processes by integrating advanced data on operator profiles, emotional states, and available technologies. The result is a system designed to maximize operational performance, improve decision-making, and support human–machine collaboration in modern industrial environments.

The project, which officially concludes in these months, held its final meeting in Malta during the International Conference on Industry of the Future and Smart Manufacturing, hosted from 12 to 14 November. This prestigious venue provided the ideal stage to present DESDEMONA’s outcomes to an international audience of academics, industrial partners, and technology experts.

During the meeting, the project team illustrated the research activities conducted, the methodological and technological advancements achieved, and the potential pathways for future development. The discussion highlighted how DESDEMONA’s DSS can support industries in enhancing maintenance strategies, improving operator well-being, and leveraging data-driven intelligence for smarter processes.

The session sparked great interest among participants, generating constructive discussions and valuable feedback from both academia and industry. The strong engagement demonstrated the relevance of DESDEMONA’s results and the promising opportunities for further research, industrial transfer, and real-world application.

As the project comes to a close, we look forward to exploring new collaborations and continuing the work that DESDEMONA has initiated toward a more efficient, human-centred, and technologically advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
